This old town hall, designed by PJ Taeymans, was used from 1877 to 1986 as the town hall and forester post of Baarle-Hertog. On the first floor was the council chamber, the archive, the secretariat and the cadastre, in the basement was a prison, place for the fire gun and house for the policeman.
Since 1989, this building has served as the archive, work and exhibition space of the Heemkundekring Amalia van Solms. The Heemhuis was declared a monument in 1994.

The Heemkundekring regularly organizes exhibitions. Every Wednesday evening (7.30 pm to 9 pm) and every first Sunday morning of the month (10.30 am to 12.30 pm) you can visit the Heemhuis. For groups, a visit is also possible by appointment.
