Enclave N8 partly is a Dutch nature reserve, surrounded entirely by Belgian designated agricultural area.
N8 is not a counter-enclave as it is not surrounded by an enclave belonging to another state (Belgium in this particular case). Unlike the other seven Dutch enclaves, this one (N8) is located south of the main border between the Netherlands and Belgium. N8 is only at a distance of circa 30 metres from the Dutch mainland.
Up until the 18th century, N8 was not an enclave yet. At the time, this area of the Netherlands was at one side connected to the Dutch mainland.
