Walking / bike tour along the signs of enclaves

From the starting point, turn left, cross the road in the direction of Brasserie den Engel. On the other side of the road is the sign Enclave H1, panel 1. You are in the center of Baarle and see the popular border line with the plaque and the municipal arms.

This enclave H1 is the largest Baarlese enclave, larger than all other Baarlese enclaves combined. In fact, 79% of all enclave residents from Baarle live in this one enclave. You continue your route through the Molenstraat and after 500 meters you will reach the Enclave N2 sign.

N2 is a Dutch counterenclave (an enclave within an enclave). There are eight homes and two commercial properties. You stay in the Molenstraat and after 300 meters you come to the Enclave N3 sign.

N3 is the smallest counterenclave (enclave within an enclave) in the world. The enclave border runs right through the Bierborder. Immediately after the Biergrenier, turn right into the Donkerstraat. After 400 metres, just across the Bels Lijntje cycle path, turn right onto Parralelweg. After 500 meters you will come to sign Enclave H1, panel 2.

The boundary of enclave H1 runs right through the town hall of Baarle-Hertog. You walk all the way to the end of Parallelweg. At the end turn left, Pastoor de Katerstraat. Turn left immediately past the Cultuurcentrum and you will see the Enclave N1 sign.

N1 is the largest Dutch enclave in terms of area. Where you are now, the enclave N1 is on the right side of the road. You walk back to Pastoor de Katerstraat and turn left. After 700 meters you will come to sign Enclave H7.

H7 is the smallest enclave in the world. You are now at the famous house with the 2 house numbers, the border runs right through the front door. Turn around at this point and walk back about 500 meters to turn left into Burgemeester van Gilsestraat. At the end you cross the Chaamseweg straight and you arrive in the Leliestraat. At the 1st intersection on the left is the Enclave H6 sign.

In enclave H6 is a replica of the reception and transmission tower MN7. Here turn left into the Boschovenseweg, then the 1st street on the right, Bernhardstraat, then the 1st street on the left, Emmastraat. Turn left immediately after the bend, you will arrive in the Frederikstraat. Here is sign Enclave H14.

When the enclave boundaries were established in 1995, 21 houses were wholly or partly in the enclave H14. The border runs straight through 10 homes and numerous garages and gardens. Frederikstraat changes into Christinastraat, you cross Willem Alexanderstraat and you arrive in Hertogenstraat, here is the Enclave H13 sign.

When the enclave boundaries were determined in 1995, it turned out that 47 houses were wholly or partly in enclave H13. The border here runs through 18 houses. With the bend to the left, then the 1st street to the right and another right around the square. Now turn left into Herenstraat. Turn right at the end, Nassaulaan. After 200 meters you will see the Enclave H15 sign on your right.

Enclave H15 has not been parceled out for a long time. In the early 1970s, the two municipalities jointly rolled out a street and parcel network over it. In order to create beautiful plots, the presence of the enclave has deliberately not been taken into account. That is why the national border runs through numerous plots. If you want to visit the Enclave H12 sign, the route will be 3.5 km longer and you can read more at points 12 and 13. If you do not want this, walk out of Nassaulaan. End left, Generaal Maczeklaan. You come to the roundabout. You cross this right. Continue reading at point 14.

You turn around and walk out of Nassaulaan. With the bend to the right and you arrive at Boschoven. You cross the viaduct and again with a bend to the right. You will now arrive at the Hof van Baarle vineyard with the Enclave H12 sign. You continue your route. At the end of the street turn right onto the Alphenseweg. At the 2nd roundabout, turn left. This enclave is located within the Hof van Baarle vineyard. The 2.5 ha vines are partly on Belgian and largely on Dutch territory. You continue your route over Boschoven. At the end of the street turn right onto the Alphenseweg. At the 2nd roundabout, turn left.

After the roundabout, turn left and continue your route via the service road, Oordeelstraat. You will now reach sign Enclave H8.

This is the second largest Baarlese enclave. Two projections of H8 make the border jump four times at a distance of 150 meters. Go straight ahead on the Judgment Street and take the 1st road on the right, Visweg. After 300 meters there is sign Enclave H9.

The Belgian Enclave H9 is located in the middle of the business premises of Koninklijke Drukkerij Em. de Jong. This family business was founded in 1906. You walk down the Visweg to the crossroads.

At the Visweg/Kapelstraat/Nijhoven intersection, the St. Salvator Chapel is on the left. Here you turn right into the Kapelstraat. At the end of the street turn right. You are back at the starting point.

You are back in the center of Baarle. This is the end of this route.
